The Laptop Anatomy You Should Know
Laptop anatomy is the same as PC anatomy as they are both computers but with different form factors and purposes. In this article, I will explain laptop anatomy because the laptop has become the most used computer compared to PC/ Desktop.
People who own a desktop computer usually also own a laptop computer but not the other way around, laptop users are not always having a desktop computer.
Laptop Anatomy
CPU ( Central Processor Unit)
Sometimes called Processor or Microprocessor is the main part of a laptop (computer) if you measure the performance of a laptop you will need to check this first before others.
Memory Laptop (RAM)
People sometimes called it memory or RAM (Random Access Memory) it is used when the computer runs a program. All programs which currently running are put into the RAM temporarily and then put back into the storage when the laptop turns off.
Storage
People called it Storage or Harddisk/harddrive or later we called it SSD. Harddisk has a mechanical part inside the unit. So the mechanical part becomes a bottleneck to the rest of the electronic part of the hard disk.
Graphics Card
Sometimes called GPU (Graphic Processor Unit), in a low-end laptop GPU function is an integrated part of CPU. While high-end laptops like gaming laptops or laptops for video editing or laptop for rendering 3D objects it has a separate unit so the power of the CPU doesn’t need to share its power with display processing.
Display
Sometimes we called it a screen or monitor. Without the display, we cannot see the program that currently running on a laptop. Display size measured diagonally in inches. The common size of the display is 13.3 inches, 14 inches, 15 inches, some laptops have smaller or bigger sizes. The screen is also measured in resolution, the higher the resolution is the better. 800×600, 1024×768, and 1920×1080 are the maximum resolution a screen is able to display.
Integrated Camera
The integrated camera now become a standard on every laptop, we need the camera to make a video call, the camera is also able to take a photo. A camera is located on the top of the screen so it will be in front of our face.
Integrated Microphone
A microphone is required to make audio dan video communication so other parties can hear us. The Microphone is sometimes replaced by a headset, the headset usually has better quality than the integrated Microphone.
Integrated Speakers
With speakers, we can hear music, sounds, and voice from other parties when we do video or audio calls.
VGA port
VGA (Video Graphic Adaptor) port is required to connect the laptop to an external monitor. VGA port cannot send audio signal thus we need an external speaker to be able to hear better sounds.
HDMI port
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) port is a more advanced version of the VGA port. It is used to connect to an external monitor. HDMI port also sends the audio signals.
USB port
The USB port is the newer version of the serial port it has a higher speed transfer rate. USB ports can be connected to external storage, printer, mouse, and a lot of laptop accessories.
LAN port
LAN (Local Area Network) port is used to connect the laptop to a computer network or to the Internet. Although a wired connection is more reliable than a wireless connection, these days people prefer to use wireless connections for practical reasons.
WIFI
WIFI (Wireless Fidelity) the function is the same with LAN port but in a wireless version. WIFI although less reliable than a wired network but is a preferable method to connect to the local network and the Internet. You cannot see the WIFI chip, its located inside the laptop.
